Monitoring and integration of cardio, respiratory and neural variables during sleep

Program Goals

This educational activity will explore new and novel ways to measure sleep. New diagnostics being brought to patient’s homes is a forthcoming reality. In the area of sleep apnea, home sleep testing has already largely taken over except for children and those with complex medical comorbidities and neurological disease, etc.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for sleep experts, primary care clinicians, medical professionals and caregivers with an interest in sleep.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Examine the necessary elements in lab polysomnogram, the standard for sleep assessment.
  • Define potential options for the remote monitoring of cardiac signals during sleep.
  • Evaluate how integration of these cardiac signals could be utilized in improving prevention, diagnosis and therapy of sleep related diseases.
  • Discuss the range of currently available home sleep and sleep disturbed breathing diagnostics and their accuracy compared to in-laboratory polysomnography.
  • List home sleep devices toward better understanding of the complex relationships between sleep and health, and cardiovascular and neurological diseases.
  • Explore future home sleep assessment approaches likely to become useful for home sleep assessment.
