Statement of Need/Program Overview
In this educational activity, attendees will understand why PAP alone cannot reverse the metabolic, behavioral and neuro- cognitive roots of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). This webinar highlights four complementary frontiers: oropharyngeal myofunctional training, pharmacologic modulation of airway collapsibility, approaches to weight related components of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and digitally connected care pathways that can scale labor intensive components of OSA management. Attendees will gain a practical framework for matching therapy to patient phenotype and for counselling those who ask, “What else is there besides Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)?”.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for healthcare professionals involved in the management of obstructive sleep apnea that include Pulmonologists, Pneumologists, Respirologists, Respiratory Physiotherapists, Respiratory Therapists (Hospital, Home), Neurologists, Pediatricians, Otorhinolaryngologists, Sleep Technicians, Home Healthcare Providers, Critical Care Medicine Specialists, Internal Medicine Specialists, Primary Care Physicians (General and Family Practitioners), Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, Managed Care Medical Directors, and other Practitioners and Payers.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Discuss non-PAP approaches to management of obstructive sleep apnea.
- Identify how weight management approaches including their outcomes impact sleep apnea.
- List pharmacologic approaches to management of OSA that are independent of weight management.
- Describe ways that digital connectivity may enhance the scalability of multi-component management of sleep apnea.
